ABOUT

Established in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we began by providing emergency parcels to local families. Responding to the continuing need in our community we now partner with 6 local schools – Balerno High, Currie High, Currie Primary, Dean Park Primary, Nether Currie Primary and Juniper Green Primary – who refer families to us in need of support.

Community for Food is a community food provision service.
We give a helping hand of support not just a hand out. We provide a tailored offering partnering with schools so that families in need can choose the food and hygiene products that meet their social, cultural and dietary needs.

Each week we provide deliveries of fresh fruit and vegetables and larder provisions. Each month we provide a personal hygiene and household cleaning pack.

We are committed to reducing food waste and work with FareShare and local supermarkets to redistribute surplus food.

Sometimes families need support for a short period of time, others need longer term support. We are committed to helping any family who is referred to us by one of our partner schools.

Community for Food is led by a small volunteer committee and powered by a dedicated volunteer team.
